Christopher C. Shen, M.D.

Leadership, compassion, and a pursuit of excellence are the traits that best describe the education and medical training of Dr. Christopher C. Shen, a fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist. Originally from Knoxville, TN, Dr. Shen completed his undergraduate studies in biomedical engineering and mathematics graduating summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University.

After working as a biomedical engineer at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, he then went on to complete his medical degree at the University of Tennessee. During this time, his experience volunteering in medical mission work in El Salvador coupled with vision research at St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital led to his pursuit of residency training in ophthalmology at the Hamilton Eye Institute in Memphis, TN, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Shen was then selected to train at the prestigious Devers Eye Institute and Casey Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon, where he completed a fellowship in glaucoma.

In addition to his commitment to patient care and providing the most up-to-date treatments in eyecare, Dr. Shen has also provided leadership to his colleagues, having authored numerous journal articles, contributing to a chapter in "The Glaucoma Book" by John Samples and Paul Shacknow, and serving as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Glaucoma, contributing author to the Eyewiki website, and a medical expert responding to online inquiries on MedHelp.com. He holds active memberships in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Glaucoma Society, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
