LASIK, laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis, is one of the most popular vision correction procedures because it can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism for a broad range of prescriptions. LASIK corrects vision by reshaping the cornea so that light focuses more precisely on the retina. The LASIK Procedure Step by Step

After your eye has been numbed with eye drop anesthesia, an eyelid speculum will be positioned to hold your eyes open. You will remain awake and comfortable throughout the procedure. Once the procedure is completed, you will be given additional eye drops. Your vision will probably be a little blurry at first, so have someone drive you home and relax for the rest of the day. Recovery from LASIK is amazingly fast. At Wellish Vision Institute, you can count on us to be there every step of the way.

Step 1

During the first step of All-Laser LASIK Dr. Wellish uses a computer controlled cold beam laser to create a small corneal flap. This technology gives you added piece of mind by providing you the highest level of predictability and accuracy.

Step 2

During the second step of the procedure Dr. Wellish uses the state-of-the-art VISX Star S4 laser with Iris Registration to apply a cool beam of light, which gently reshapes the cornea. This allows images to be more sharply focused by the retina to improve your vision.

Step 3

During the final step of All-Laser LASIK, Dr. Wellish gently places the corneal flap that was created in step one back into it’s original position. This starts healing almost immediately and allows many patients to realize the “wow” factor of All-Laser LASIK more quickly.

Does Monovision LASIK work well?

If you require bifocals to see then myopic LASIK eye surgery may not be the best option. Monovision LASIK is a surgical vision correction technique in which, one eye is corrected for distance vision and the other eye is corrected for up close vision or reading vision. This version of LASIK is typically performed only on patients over the age of 40 years old and is the only way that an older patient can avoid needing reading glasses. Many people that undergo Monovision LASIK are satisfied with their new vision. Despite the relatively high level of patient satisfaction we typically ask each patient to undergo a contact lens trial prior to having the actual surgery because this will give the most realistic view of what Monovision will be like. What can I expect after the LASIK eye surgery procedure?

Your decision to have LASIK laser vision correction is a serious one. Ultimately, you will be the one to make the final choice. When selecting a LASIK surgeon it is important to choose one that can honestly explain your visual needs. In 98% of LASIK cases with CustomVue, the visual outcome is 20/20 or better, however, this is a surgical procedure and risk is still involved.  The ultimate goal of LASIK is to reduce your dependence on glasses and contact lenses. LASIK does not always create perfect 20/20 vision, though most cases are successful in improving vision. Make sure that your doctor of choice has the right answers to your specific questions and concerns, the best technology and the experience under his belt to ensure a safe and effective procedure. It is possible that this is one of the most important decisions that you will ever make. This is your eyes and your life.

LASIK is not an effective method for treating presbyopia, which is vision degeneration due to the aging of the eye.

What are my risks by undergoing LASIK eye surgery?

LASIK is a surgical procedure conducted on the cornea part of the eye. It is crucial that patients are well educated on the potential benefits and risks of this procedure.  After your pre-operative evaluation you will have a good idea about the risks and what they imply to your specific situation. It is important to discuss any concerns with your surgeon.  Each patient’s vision is different and different treatment options are available in order to give the best possible results.
