Wellish Vision Institute, in Las Vegas, Nevada, wants to make sure their patients are eating healthily because it is vital for healthy eyes! Eating right important for living a healthy lifestyle and eating foods that are rich in nutrients can help important organs, like your eyes! Eyes need certain nutrients to be healthy and function at their very best! Make sure to look out for these nutrients:

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

The retina contains an acid known as docosahexaenoic acid that promotes regular function. This acid also helps by fighting off inflammation and eye disease (such as macular degeneration), and strengthens cell membranes. A great source of this nutrient is fish. Try eating more salmon, halibut, herring, flounder, tuna, and sardines because all of these fish are rich in this acid.

Zinc

Zinc is another healthy nutrient for your eyes, and it is plentiful in crab and oysters. Zinc combats night blindness and also fights against macular degeneration. Zinc helps the body to absorb vitamins and antioxidants, which also helps eye health. If you don’t like seafood, zinc is also found in peanuts, turkey, and whole grains.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin are found in leafy greens and strengthen the part of the retina that protects the eye from pollution and sunlight. Spinach, kale, broccoli, brussels sprouts, collard greens, and Swiss chard are great sources for these antioxidants.

Other Foods

Eggs are a great source for many of these nutrients because they are found in the yolk. Pumpkin, carrots, and sweet potato are great for eyes. The orange color is no coincidence since they all have a red-orange pigment called beta-carotene, which turns into Vitamin A. Vitamin A is important to help fight night blindness. Vitamin A can also be found in red pepper and winter squash.
