Dr. Mattheis (pronounced “MATH-EYES”) is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and Director of Comprehensive Eyecare Services and the Dry Eye Center of Excellence at Wellish Vision Institute.  He is an investigator for multiple clinical research trials, past and present.  In addition, Dr. Mattheis is a current faculty member at UNLV School of Medicine where he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery, Ophthalmology Section.  Dr. Mattheis completed his residency in ophthalmology at Loma Linda University Medical Center in 1992, where he served as chief resident. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the National Board of Medical Examiners.  Dr. Mattheis also has a Master of Science degree in Public Health, specializing in Epidemiology and Biostatistics.  He practices medicine with individual attention while maintaining a broad  global health perspective.

His academic honors include being inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society.  He has also been honored by induction into Delta Omega, the national public health honor society. Dr. Mattheis was invited and accepted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).  He was also invited and became an overseas Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, based in Great Britain, whose past members include Charles Darwin, Edward Jenner, and Sigmund Freud. Dr. Mattheis’ work, early in his career, was nationally recognized by Who’s Who Among Rising Young Americans, and the Consumers’ Research Council of America selected him as one of America’s Top Ophthalmologists.

Locally, Dr. Mattheis has been selected by his physician peers as a Castle Connolly “Top Doc” in Las Vegas every year since 2016.  He is a well known national lecturer and speaker to fellow physicians in the areas of dry eye disease, ocular allergy, and glaucoma. He is considered to be a Key Opinion Leader in those fields. Dr. Mattheis’ top-notch clinical skills and kind, lighthearted and charming nature, which rubs off on everyone around him, make him one of the most popular and sought-after doctors around.  Dr. Mattheis specializes in many areas of adult eye care, including dry eye disease, diabetic eye care, glaucoma, macular degeneration, LASIK and cataract pre- and post-op care. Dr. Mattheis also specializes in acute eye care problems and reserves appointment slots for immediate availability by appointment at all three office locations.
