Monovision LASIK is a technique in which one eye is corrected for distance vision and one eye is corrected for near vision during the LASIK procedure. This is usually done on patients over the age of 40 as a way to avoid the need for reading glasses. Monovision LASIK has a high level of patient satisfaction. We do ask that anyone considering Monovision LASIK undergo a trial using contact lenses to make sure that you will adjust well to monovision and will like your results. If you’re in Las Vegas and have been thinking about LASIK and are over 40, consider having Monovision! Since it takes some getting used to, we can have a ‘trial phase’ using two contact lenses with different prescriptions to see if Monovision will improve your quality of life.
Monovision LASIK is used to treat people with presbyopia. It preserves good near and distance vision without the need for corrective eyewear. The procedure optimizes one eye for distance sight and the other eye for near sight. With a little practice, patients learn to adjust their vision to accommodate between different distances.
One of the greatest advantages of monovision LASIK is finally having the freedom from reading glasses! After six to eight weeks the brain makes the vision changes automatically, without any conscious effort or awareness. Monovision LASIK allows patients to change the range of focus without having to constantly remove or add corrective lenses.
Most patients adapt quickly and happily to this vision correction option. However, Monovision LASIK is not suitable for everyone. People entering midlife are usually the best candidates for Monovision LASIK. Please call our office today to set up an appointment with Dr. Kent Wellish to see if you are a good candidate for monovision.
