Dr. Matthew Chiapa was born and raised in the city of Bakersfield, California. He received his bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of California at Riverside

After college, he immediately attended the Southern California College of Optometry where he earned his degree in Optometry. He was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society all four years of his attendance and received the Dr. Reynaldo J. Carreon, Jr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship. He developed an interest in ocular disease management as he attended clinical rotations at the Spark M. Matsunaga Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Hawaii, the David Grant Medical Center at Travis Air Force Base in California, and finally the Wellish Vision Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada. When Dr. Chiapa received his degree, he began his optometry career here in Las Vegas; no better place to start is the Wellish Vision Institute.

Dr. Chiapa enjoys exploring the city, golfing, attending jazz/classical music concerts, and playing the trumpet in his spare time,
